About Garou:
- Garou isn't a real monster. He's a villain "for fun" (according to Saitama) and wants to rule the world with "True Evil". Basically he aspires to be someone like Lelouch from Code Geass - unite the world under "terror". However, Saitama sees through this. Garou, as someone who was bullied in his youth, wants to protect the weak. And only with raw power can he do so.
- Since Garou isn't a real monster, there's no point in Saitama trying to fight him seriously. Saitama even acknowledges Garou's transformation as a "costume". A key ability of Saitama's is that he can discern what is actually evil and needs to be eliminated. He can see into the true character of those he meets. This is never explicitly explained, but it has been shown many times within the series.
- Garou takes a beating from Saitama in the WC fight, but as I mentioned earlier, Saitama isn't trying to kill Garou. Saitama acknowledges that Garou is actually trying to be a hero. It's why Garou hadn't actually killed any heroes (heroes never die lol) and saved Tareo from the Monster Association. To Saitama, this is a play fight. Even his "serious moves" are quite comical. I cannot believe "serious table flip" is taken as seriously as the serious punch which literally saved the planet by some people.
About Boros/Garou vs Boros:
- Boros is a DBZ powerscaler parody. He's meant to be strong just for the sake of being strong. His hair even grows as he powers up.
- Since OPM is a satire, thematics trump feats. Strength isn't what it seems as it is on paper. By the logic of feats, the mosquito is the strongest character.
- There would be no point in having a stronger character than Boros. If there is a point, I can't think of it.
- WC Boros < WC Garou. However, the WC Boros fight is very old and creative changes have definitely been made, in storytelling and design. The moon kick was added in the manga. But if we see a "Mars kick" or something stupid like fans are suggesting in the Saitama vs Garou fight, I will straight up drop OPM.
- There is no purpose of Garou being stronger than Boros. Garou's arc is a character development one. In Saitama vs Garou, Saitama helps Garou see what he truly wants and who he truly is. That's the purpose of the fight. In the fight vs Boros, Saitama quite literally saved the world from a guy who was literally looking to fight someone strong just for the sake of it.
About the "limiter":
- The "limiter" thing is by far my least favorite aspect of the story. To me it ruins the whole joke and almost ruins the premise of the entire series for me.
- On one hand, it's a good motivational thing for the reader. "If you try your hardest and are dedicated, you can achieve your goals and break your 'limits'". On the other hand, it turns OPM into a powerscale fest which is not something it was meant to be at all... Hopefully the concept is handled well in the manga.
Miscellany:
- OPM is not about powerscaling. Raw strength doesn't mean much about a character. Just because Boros is the strongest doesn't mean he's the best character. Even examples like Mumen Rider aside, there is literally a side chapter about how power levels are stupid and have no place in this series.
- Genos powers up so much that he one-punches the mad cyborg, thus understanding Saitama's pain.
- Genus is the "smart" character so many people say he's basically ONE narrating in the story through a character. I really hope this isn't the case. Especially with all the limiter stuff. Unless there's a better explanation for it in the manga.
- I hope there is a good punchline at the end of the final arc. Before Neo Heroes was a thing, I thought Saitama would become rank S1 and everyone's like: "wow if some random baldy can do it, it must not be special". This would be a clever joke as well as motivating for the average reader. If you try, you can succeed, basically. However I'm not as good of a writer as ONE; it's clear he has something far bigger planned.
