Most people online are concerned about looking good in front of others rather than discussing ideas. They'll resort to sarcasm and ad hominem to berate the other party. Once the other person is seen as "bad", it's difficult to take their ideas seriously. Because why consider the arguments of a bad person, right?
I refrain from having political discussions online. It never makes anyone's day better.
I posted a comment on a political video with a slight disagreement on one topic, and the first reply was a rather sarcastic one, plus he assumed the point I was bringing up was "InfoWars adjacent"... clearly not willing to hear out an argument because it's possible the information originated from InfoWars, an organization seen as "bad"...
